How Dermal Fillers Work

Dermal fillers are commonly made with hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found within the body and can help retain moisture and make the skin more supple. When the hyaluronic acid is injected into an area, it creates a temporary bond with the area, leading to a filled-in or fuller appearance. A local anesthetic will be applied during your dermal filler procedure to keep you comfortable throughout the treatment. After this, the provider will inject the area and may massage it to help correctly position the filler.

Benefits of Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers can be used throughout the face to help patients treat common signs of aging, or add volume to an area, in just a few minutes. Texas Facial Plastic Surgery uses several brands of dermal fillers, each with its own unique benefits.

Juvederm®

This family of products is one of the most commonly used dermal fillers. Juvederm can successfully add volume to the cheeks, lips, and the areas around the mouth, including marionette lines.

Restylane®

This line of dermal fillers is often used to treat fine lines and wrinkles throughout the face. It can also add volume to the lips, cheeks, and tear trough beneath the eyes.

Revanesse Versa®

This filler can be used to treat facial wrinkles and folds. It works on different types of wrinkles, from moderate to severe. It can also be used on the nasolabial fold that runs from the side of the nose to the corners of the mouth.

Adding Dermal Filler Treatment into Your Life

One of the benefits of dermal fillers is how quick the procedure is. Surgical procedures require extended periods of rest and recovery. Dermal filler treatments typically take 30 minutes or less to perform and require almost no downtime. Although the results are temporary, you’ll be able to come in for touch-up appointments as needed.

Recovery After Dermal Fillers

Once the treatment is over, you will be able to return to most of your regular activities right away. You may experience some bruising or swelling, but this should diminish after a few days. Before your treatment, you will be given full recovery instructions, including what to avoid after treatment.

You should avoid exercise, heat, and massaging the area for 24-48 hours following your treatment. Depending on your treatment, this may be longer.

Are fillers reversible?

They can be dissolved using a different injection. Over time the filler will also safely be absorbed by your body, and you can choose not to repeat the treatment. Those interested in dermal fillers can contact Texas Facial Plastic Surgery to schedule a consultation.
